According to elementary schools.org, over 51% of the Public Elementary and Middle Schools in the Greater Dunedin area have students who participate in the Free or Reduced Rate lunch program. Summer vacation which commences May 29-August 14 increases the financial hardship on families who need to provide a breakfast and lunch for their children, thus the increased demand and the Challenge. Dunedin Cares is asking local businesses, churches, civic organizations and individuals to participate in the Peanut Butter and Jelly Challenge so they can stock their shelves to meet this increase summer need.
